Synaesthetic Theatre invites you to participate in our upcoming
Viewpoints Workshop series. Past workshops have brought together artists from a wide range of mediums and levels of experience
with the Viewpoints. Synaesthetic has planned a four-part series for this fall in which participants will explore Viewpoints
from the ground up, experiment with the use of sound and music, create choreography and practice using the Viewpoints as a
rehearsal tool. Originated by dancer/choreographer Mary Overlie, the Viewpoints provide a simple and profound language with
which performers, choreographers and directors can communicate. Mary introduced 6 labels: Space, Time, Shape, Movement,
Story and Emotion. Having deconstructed the basic building blocks of physical performance, the performer, choreographer
or director is free to examine these separately or in tandem, from all angles, in an infinite investigation. Synaesthetic
Theatre utilizes the Viewpoints extensively during our collaborative rehearsal process for ensemble-building, character exploration,
and the development of themes, relationships and staging.

Workshop #1 ::INTRO Saturday, September 18
This workshop will introduce and explore each Viewpoint. This is a basic session for anyone new to the Viewpoints
or anyone wishing to revisit the foundations of Viewpoint work. |
Workshop #2 :: Saturday, October 16
This workshop will focus on the use of sound. Working with music and words, we will explore the space, time, shape, movement,
emotion and story of sound. |
Workshop #3 ::Saturday, November 20
This workshop will use the Viewpoints to create and build choreography and to facilitate group piece-making. |
Workshop #4 :: Saturday, December 18
This final workshop will use the Viewpoints to explore themes, relationships and staging. |
